Event Decorator loves hair garlands! It is such a cute accessory to add to your hair, and it creates a beautiful statement piece. We get a lot of requests to have a halo for your oh-so-cute flower girls, but now more and more Bride’s are wanting to rock that look! Are you including floral in your hair style?

Groom’s Style Report for 2013

Last week we posted Bridal Fashion Trends for 2013, this week it’s all about our Groom’s style! As seen on Wedding Chicks.com, there are six fabulous Groom style trends we are seeing for this year. Gone are the days where the groom is walking into a suit rental shop last minute, Groom’s today are looking to bring more style and personality into their day of attire.

Color: Also seen in Bridal Fashion, we are seeing more and more color in men’s suits. More specific, designers are creating suits in lighter and darker shade of blue. Going with a neutral, skinny tie would bring this look together to create a indy look for your Groom!

Mismatched Prints: This look will have to be taken with caution. You do not want a mismatched suit that looks like he chose his suit with his eyes closed. Much like when you are mismatching your Bridesmaids dress, you have to match colors, or stay within the same color palette. When it’s done right, this is a totally cute look for your man!

Suspenders: This trend comes hand in hand with the vintage, bohemian trend we are seeing in weddings. Suspenders work for a farm wedding, to a wedding with a little more rock and roll! Our Groom will fully appreciate this trend if you are having a beautiful outdoor wedding in the middle of a hot August afternoon.

Pop of Color: Okay, so your man does not want to wear a blue suit, well how about a neutral suit with a pop of color? Event Decorator loves creating a boutonniere with bold colors to pop out against your Groom’s suit. Color can also be brought in with his tie, or bow!

Velvet Suits: Having a fall or winter wedding? This look will be perfect for your Groom. Velvet adds a fancy, loyal feel for your wedding day, not to mention you won’t be able to keep your hands off!

Affordable Tuxedos: Do not have a wedding budget that allows for a Tuxedo? No problem, many designers are now cutting suits with modern cuts creating a tuxedo-like feel in a suit. Most stores carry low price suits with a modern cut that will look great – No one will even know it was on sale!

Skinny Tie: This look can be used in every type of wedding, whether your having an elegant affair, a farm wedding, or a winter wonderland. A skinny tie will be sure to tie your Groom’s look together. Men’s suits are fitting slimmer, so it only makes sense to have a skinny tie.

Wedding Dress Trends for Spring 2013

To help you with your decision of choosing a wedding dress, here are the top five trends for Spring 2013. We love helping our clients with any questions regarding their wedding during the planning process. Because we offer planning as well as design, we often get many questions with wedding dresses. Bride’s want to match the look of their wedding dress to the entire event itself.

Color: We first saw color in Bridal gowns on the runway, but it is something we are seeing more and more in real weddings. Vera Wang’s red wedding dress was first seen last fall on the runway, this dress still receives a lot of attention. Many Bride’s find color dresses look better with their skin tone, so they avoid the traditional white. Although themes are not as popular as they used to be, we still see those creative Bride’s bringing a theme to life on their wedding day. Having a color dress is another way to contribute to your theme.

Lace: Ever since the world watched Kate Middleton walk down the aisle, we’ve been seeing lace everywhere! As you saw in our Lace Inspired blog post. There are many places to incorporate lace into your wedding. One of the more obvious places is in your dress. Designers have created an art in the pattern of lace, from small and delicate to larger and more graphic. Lace can be seen just to cover up or through the whole dress. Conservative Bride’s may use lace to cover up their shoulders or arms.

2 in 1: Another trend set by the Duchess herself. We saw her put on a rhinestone belt after her ceremony was completed. Ever since, Bride’s have been following closely in her footsteps. Bride’s are wanting to have two looks for their wedding day, one for the Ceremony and another for the Reception. Designers have been creating tear away skirts, which transforms your long wedding gown into a short cocktail dress. We’ve also seen lace jackets, that will later be removed for the Reception.

Portrait Backs: Having a portrait back on your dress is an unexpected feature, as most of your guests will not see until you reach the alter. For those fashionable Bride’s, your gown is where you want to make a statement. Last year we saw sexy all bare backs in Bridal gowns. This year designers are creating whole lace backs, or having a smaller ‘keyhole’ exposing just a small area on your back. It is a great way to make your exit as memorable as your entrance!

Peplums: This trend is seen very commonly in street fashion. Peplum is a short piece of fabric attached to the waist of a top. This is a fun and feminine twist on a wedding dress. It creates an architectural yet chic shape. If your a Bride with hips, it would be best to use a smaller peplum dress, but for those of you with a boyish figure, this is a great way to create an hourglass shape. But no matter your shape, this is a trend many women can pull off!

Coloured Wedding Dresses

Coloured wedding dresses are trending more in 2013. When our bride Tracy Roth asked me to help source a wedding dress had hints of blue it got me thinking that picking a wedding dress color no longer means choosing between ivory, white or cream. Brides are walking down the aisle in all colors of the rainbow, whether it’s by adding a touch of color with accessories or going for full on pastels, dark or patterns. This is a uniuqe way to make a personal statement about who you are!

The idea of a white wedding only became a popular tradition in the 1800s when Queen Victoria married Albert. In eastern cultures, brides traditionally wear red dresses to symbolize good luck and prosperity, as white can have negative connotations (in Japanese culture it symbolizes death).

Pink has become a popular dress pick colour, for its soft and romantic look, as well as light pastels like mint green, yellow and blue.

Some vintage dresses and fabrics have natural and subtle colors. Why not pick a tea-length party dress in a cute colored pattern or your favorite color like this bride did?

REAL WEDDING WEDNESDAYS – GOLD AUSTRALIAN VALLEY WEDDING

Get ready to swoon lovelies! This Melbourne, Australia wedding is absolutely to die for. Typically, when gold is used in a wedding it’s for the bridesmaids dresses, used as an accent colour, or just an opportunity for the bride to accessorize. Well, this bride most definitely thought outside the box and it sure payed off. I love the reverse thinking of swapping colours with her bridesmaids. Bridesmaids Robes

One of our favorite wedding day moments here at Event Decorator is the morning of, with the bride and her party. The photographs captured of the bridal party getting ready are always so touching and such a good opportunity for some candid shots of a group of best friends celebrating. Many brides will purchase matching items for her and her girls to wear, often times shirts with “Bride” or “Bridesmaids” rhinestoned across the back. Some choose to go the more subtle route with each girl doing her own thing. My personal favorite is when the bride and her maids sport matching (or mix and matched) silk robes. Silk robes are timeless and comfortable, making it a perfect bridesmaid’s gift as well as a great option to wear before dressing to prevent ruining your hair and makeup.

Plum Pretty Sugar Loungerie are the makers of lovely bohemian inspired robes in a variety of colored patterns. You can purchase matching robes or mix-and-match with different prints for each one of your girls. The great thing about this online boutique is they sell bridesmaids packages at a lower cost and even have cute little numbers for the flower girl. They also have a collection of loungewear making it a great honeymoon shop.

Love Ophelia’s line of robes and loungewear are less boho-chic, with more of a vintage-classic style. Their robes come in both long and short styles in soft pastels with lace detailing. There is also a white lace robe which would be perfect for the bride to be. In the most recent season of The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard wore an Ophelia robe on the finale episode.

Wedding Hand-me-Downs

With many still recovering from the monetary shock of the recession, the bridal industry has seen an onslaught of second hand bridal shops popping up online. Former brides are quick to sell their prized gown for a fraction of the cost to an all too eager bride to be. With social marketplace websites such as Kijiji and Craig’s List becoming the go to shop for many second hand buyers, it’s only natural that a wedding focused website would arise. And arise they have. For those who have always coveted a Vera Wang gown for your big day this is finally your chance. Hustle Your Bustle is a website focused on re-selling and auctioning off high end, “pre-loved” or sample dresses but they also carry a variety of indie designers and vintage styles. Pre-owned Wedding Dresses and Encore Bridal both focus on reselling gowns and accessories at a fraction of the price. There is a risk though. Fit and quality. Make sure to inquire as to alterations and measurements. A size 8 in an everyday jersey dress is not the same in any two bridal gowns. Ask to see a current picture to inspect for any wear and tear.

And it’s not just dresses either, Smart Bride Boutique and Ruffled Blog’s Recycle Your Wedding allow users to sell off and buy used wedding goods such as décor, chairs, bridesmaids dresses, accessories, etc.

Flower Girl Love

There is nothing cuter than a flower girl all decked out in her wedding attire. Running after all the bridesmaids trying oh so hard to be older than she is. Stealing the show at the ceremony when she dumps the petals in the middle of the aisle, pulls her halo off her head or yells hello Grandma.

My favourite flower girl memory is during an outdoor wedding ceremony we designed. The two flower-girls (sisters) aged 3 and 5 had the couples dog on a lease between them. The dog took off with the flower girls squealing with laughter and running behind. After a few laps around the ceremony aisle they stopped to play in the grass forgetting their duties entirely. They had adorable matching smocks over white dresses. They proceeded to take off their smocks loudly discussing there dislike of them. The laughter was unforgettable.

I think part of the fun of having a flower girl is the incredibly cute dresses Brides get to dress them in. If you are a Bride that likes everything to go as planned you may want to think twice about these adorable yet unpredictable attendants. I have compiled some adorable dress ideas. Flower Girl Dresses

Ever wonder how brides choose the perfect flower girl dresses for their weddings? With all the options out there, it can be one of the toughest decisions in planning a wedding. In this article, we’ll look at some guidelines and ideas that may help make choosing flower girl dresses a little easier.

First, let’s cover some of the general guidelines. Although there is no age cut-off for being a flower girl, traditionally flower girls are between 3 and 7 years old. Of course, some brides think its fine to have teenaged flower girls; others prefer to use the term “junior bridesmaid,” “bridesmaid in waiting,” or a similar equivalent instead. It really comes down to a matter of personal preference.

For the purposes of this article, however, we’ll assume that the flower girl is 7 years old or younger. With that in mind, let’s talk about some of the traditional guidelines for flower girl dresses. Traditionally, most flower girl dresses have fallen to about knee length, or just a hair longer. Perhaps this is because longer dresses tend to look too formal on a youngster, or perhaps it’s because children tend to me more prone to tripping. Whatever the case, shorter flower girl dresses seem to be the best choice.

The most popular baby flower girl dresses have also traditionally been classic ball-gown styles, with a frothy full skirt that is gathered at the waist. This may be a good place to start when shopping for flower girl dresses, since you’ll find the largest selection of dresses in this flattering style. Keep in mind that these are just guidelines for choosing basic flower girl dresses. There’s no such thing as a right or wrong answer, so use your own best judgment.

Colour

What about colour? Many brides have favoured white flower girl dresses over the years. But recently ivory flower girl dresses have become very popular. Ivory dresses offer the advantage of hiding dirt and wrinkles well (which may be a consideration with a young and playful flower girl). Ivory flower girl dresses also won’t compete with the bride’s white dress for attention in the wedding photos. Speaking of color—don’t worry too much about what the adult attendants are wearing; flower girl dresses typically don’t match the rest of the bridal party. Although flower girl dresses can certainly be coordinated to match the wedding’s theme colors, most brides don’t take this extra step.

As important as color and cut are to a dress, don’t overlook accessories as a great way to tie flower girl dresses into the overall theme of your wedding. Even if you choose a white or ivory flower girl dress, you can customize the look by adding a sash in one of your wedding’s colors. As an alternative, you can opt to have matching jewelry for everyone in your wedding party, or give everyone the same shawl. (Just be sure the accessories you want can be ordered in smaller sizes!)

Keep in mind that if you do decide to match the flower girl’s dress to the rest of your bridal party, you should buy all of the dresses from the same company, and at the same time. Colors and shades can vary slightly from dye lot to dye lot. A better option may be to coordinate the colors with those of the wedding party, rather than trying for an exact match. If your bridesmaids are wearing navy blue, for instance, consider flower girl dresses in light blue. This can add a lovely—but very subtle—color accent to your wedding party. If you want your flower girl dresses to coordinate with the rest of the wedding party but are unsure about a coloured dress, another option is to stay with neutral colors, but to subtly mimic the cut of your bridal party’s dresses. If your bridesmaids’ dresses have a U-shaped neckline, for instance, find a flower girl dress with a similar cut. If the bridesmaids are wearing long sleeves, dress your flower girl accordingly.

As important as color and cut are to a dress, don’t overlook accessories as a great way to tie flower girl dresses into the overall theme of your wedding. Even if you choose a white or ivory flower girl dress, you can customize the look by adding a sash in one of your wedding’s colors. As an alternative, you can opt to have matching jewellery for everyone in your wedding party, or give everyone the same shawl. Once you’ve decided which approach you like best, take your flower girl shopping. Have her try on a variety of dresses. You may discover that she doesn’t look good in the color you had envisioned, or that a longer dress suits her better. The more you let your flower girl participate in choosing her own dress, the more likely it is that she’ll be happy and radiant on your big day. Most importantly, give yourself plenty of time to make (and commit!) to your decision. Because of the sheer variety of flower girl dresses, making a choice may seem overwhelming at first. By giving yourself plenty of time to rule out the “maybes,” you’ll be more likely to arrive at a “yes, I love this dress!”

Finally—and maybe most importantly—don’t wait too long to order flower girl dresses. Waiting too long can be stressful, and it may also be disappointing if your first choices are no longer available by the time you make your decision. Flower girl dresses are constantly being discontinued and brought to market, so it’s in your best interest to seize the opportunity when you find a dress you like.

But what should you do it you’re worried about fitting a dress to a girl who is growing quickly? Simply buy the next size up and plan to have it altered just before the wedding. It’s much easier to make flower girl dresses smaller than to try to let them out! Because you want your big day to be special, paying attention to a few small details can really pay off.
