Dude’s View – Wedding Transportation

Does you fiancee want to arrive at her wedding in style with a “beautiful” horse and buggy?  “Oh great, “your’re thinking.  But this is one area where you can take charge – and arrive at your wedding in style in a BMW.  Gentlemen, start your engines!  Get ready for some awesome advice from Groom Groove to make you look like a super star!

In this article, we cover some basic considerations about wedding transportation. We also cover the following subjects in other articles:

Why do you need wedding transportation?

While you may never have considered that you’ll need a way to roll on wedding day, wedding transportation is a big logistical piece of wedding planning. Why? At the very least, you’ll need to organize special transportation to get the bride to the wedding ceremony, and to get the wedding party from the ceremony to a photo shoot and/or the reception.

The number of people being shuttled around

Traditionally, the bride and groom and the rest of the wedding party have their transportation provided for them. This is so that the wedding party can stick together for photos after the reception, and not have to worry about parking before or after the wedding ceremony. (Grooms are not advised to be carrying quarters.)

How the bride gets to the ceremony

As a groom, you may be wondering how your bride gets to the wedding ceremony. As you’re not actually supposed to see the bride before she glides down the aisle, you’ll be happy to know that wedding transportation is really for her and her bridesmaids. The limo, bus, trolley, classic car etc. will pick her up wherever she is with enough time for her to get to the wedding ceremony site. After the ceremony, the bride and groom travel together.

How the groom gets to the ceremony (on time)

The groom figures out on his own how he’s getting to the wedding ceremony, be it with his best man, his dad or even by taxi. “It was a pretty hot June day when I got married,” says recent groom, Brian Fitzpatrick, in an interview with GroomGroove.com. “My best man and I were going to walk the 10 blocks to the wedding site, but when we got outside, it was sweltering and so we axed the idea. We hopped in a cab.” This is just one of many reasons to plan ahead for your wedding transport. Grooms should also note that their groomsmen are responsible for figuring out how to get to the wedding ceremony on their own, although if it makes you feel more secure having a hand in those plans, feel free to get involved.

What about all the other wedding guests?

As for everyone else, an honorable mention goes to providing special treatment for the mother of the bride and groom and grandparents. It’s a nice touch if you can afford it. You don’t have any obligation to provide transportation to any other guests, even those who are traveling from afar.

How much will wedding limousine services cost?

As with everything related to the wedding, wedding limousine services can be expensive. With a little creativity, you and your fiancée will be able to find the perfect way to get around on your wedding day without breaking the bank. That said, expect to spend between $300 and $600 (and up) for wedding limo services. It really depends on what how many people need to be shuttled around, for how long, and with what mode of transportation. GroomGroove.com covers it all in this article and this section of the site.

For how long do you need wedding transportation?

The glorious bride and groom will need transportation to the ceremony and then from the ceremony, along with the wedding party,   to the photo site and the reception. There will also be a lot of waiting time, which can be quite expensive, but typically factored into the minimum time requirement. This minimum time requirement is about four hours, and you’re likely to need all four hours. Here’s where the time goes:

  • Leave the garage, and drive to pick up the bride (clock starts)
  • Pick up the bride, bring her to the wedding ceremony
  • Wait for the wedding to end, and have a smoke or two
  • Pick up the newlyweds and wedding party, and transport them to the photo site
  • Wait for the photos to end, and have a smoke or twoDrive the newlyweds and wedding party to the reception

Unfortunately, that’s the nature of wedding day and there isn’t much you can do about it. Nor is there any sense in penny pinching with your ride. It’s your wedding day, and if you’re an hour behind schedule after the photos, you’re stuck paying the extra cost. Big deal. The key is to plan your day as much as possible – check out our Wedding Day Itinerary for the Groom for guidance.

A few final words of wisdom

If you have hired a chauffeured vehicle for your wedding day transportation (especially if you opted for a fleet of pedicabs), then you’ll want to make sure that you ask what the driver will be wearing on your wedding day. You don’t want your driver showing up reeking of cigarettes, and wearing a raggedy old chauffeur hat.

  • Once everything is booked, it’s always a good idea to provide the drivers with some key information, including:
  • The names of the guests who will be driven around on the Big Day
  • Pick-up and drop-off addresses, cross streets and time
  • Detailed directions to the ceremony, photo site and reception. Use Google maps, and not your hand drawing on a napkin.

Chances all these details will be old hat for your local limousine rental agency. They’ll have already dealt with limousines that break down, bad directions and bridezilla. Be a good groom, though, and be thorough.

As an extra precaution, get your best man to call the car company two days before the wedding to confirm these details. Then, all you have to do is sit back in your horse-drawn carriage, smell the horse poop and enjoy the ride to the ceremony.

Drink Presentation Ideas

A great way to add a personal and fun touch to wedding festivities is to offer guests a custom, signature cocktail. Signature cocktails have become quite popular within the last few years and more and more couples have decided to create their very own specialty drink. It’s a great little detail your guests will love!

Coming up with your cocktail is the fun part! You can start with your favorite color, cocktail type (shaken, frozen, etc.) or if you have a liquor preference you can start there. Once you’ve made those decisions let the mixing begin and don’t forget to name your little concoction. Once you’ve got your perfect recipe you’ll want to think about presentation!  Do you want a single garnish or a variety to let your guest create their own? Tall glass or double old-fashion? Make it your own…

Drink presentation is a fun way to make impact on your wedding day.  I love these inspiring ideas.  Espically the rose petals in the ice cubes.  Share your favorite drink ideas with us.  Drink Presentation Ideas

Wedding Vows

When I started my research for this blog I expected to find the typical wedding vow selections.  I have to admit that I was a little surprised by the amount of choices for wedding vows.  Being an event designer I am always behind the scenes ensuring every detail is perfect for the cocktail and dinner receptions.   My coordinators get to witness the ceremony and Jessica always comes away with tears!  I hear clients talk about writing their own vows and I love this idea.  Weddings are so personal these days and it is a true reflection of you as a couple.

If you are starting the wedding vow process here are a few beautiful vows to get you started.

Exchange of Vows – Traditional

Blessed Be

(Groom) (Name), as we stand before both God and man making public our commitment to one another, I wish to make it known that I recognize God’s authority over my life, which is exercised from His loving heart. He has chosen me to be one of His own, and has since been my life. I recognize also that He has blessed me, and entrusted to me your life as an unearned gift. In recognition of these things, I, (Name), take you, (Name), to be my wife. I purpose to love you with His love, to provide for your needs through His enablement, and to lead you as He leads me, as long as He gives me life, regardless of circumstances. (Name), I look forward to establishing a home where Christ is glorified. Toward that end I promise to allow God to use you in my life as He sees best in building me into His person. I thank Him for your love and friendship.

(Bride) I (Name), take you, (Name), to be my husband. With the greatest joy I come into my new life with you. Today I am reminded of James l:17 which says, “Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” Besides the gift of salvation, you are the most precious gift God has given me. I know that along with the new joys God has given me, I face new responsibilities that I cannot fulfill in my own strength. But by God’s grace and power working within me, I desire to be trustworthy as your wife, to serve and love you in all circumstances, to obey you, to allow God to use you to build His qualities in me, as long as God give us life on this earth. I praise God continually for you, (Name), and for your love and friendship.

I, (Groom’s Name), take you (Bride’s Name) to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully Through the best and the worst, Through the difficult and the easy. What may come I will always be there. As I have given you my hand to hold So I give you my life to keep So help me God.

I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully Through the best and the worst, Through the difficult and the easy. What may come I will always be there. As I have given you my hand to hold So I give you my life to keep So help me God.

In unison: Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you, For where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. And where you die, I will die and there I will be buried. May the Lord do with me and more if anything but death parts you from me.

Personalized Vows

From This Day On

From this day on, I choose you, my beloved (Name), to be my (husband/wife). To live with you and laugh with you; to stand by your side, and sleep in your arms; to be joy to your heart, and food for your soul; to bring out the best in you always, and, for you, to be the most that I can. I promise to laugh with you in good times, to struggle with you in bad; to solace you when you are downhearted; to wipe your tears with my hands; to comfort you with my body; to mirror you with my soul; to share with you all my riches and honors; to play with you as much as I can until we grow old; and, still loving each other sweetly and gladly, our lives shall come to an end.

My Best Friend

I Julie, choose you Gary as my best friend, my love for life. I promise you my deepest love, my fullest devotion, my tenderest care, through the pressures of the present and the uncertainties of the future, I promise to be faithful to you. I promise to love you, to commit to you, and support you. I pledge to respect your unique talents and abilities, to lend you strength for all of your dreams. You have shown me what love feels like and for that I thank you. You are everything I need and at this moment I know all of my prayers have been answered and that all of my dreams have come true. I praise God for you Gary: for all of your love and constant friendship. I know that our love is heaven sent and I promise to be here for ever and always. From this day forward, you shall not walk alone. My heart will be your shelter and my arms will be your home. As I have given you my hand to hold, I give you my life to keep.
